I was wandering the grid, looking for a home to show you this month. I happened across the town of Philomena by chance, and decided to look around. There was an old fashioned trolley bus trundling by so I hopped on and went for a ride. As we left the shopping area and entered the residential side, I was enchanted. The homes are varied and cater to all budgets and all fit into the Edwardian / Victorian period. As I’m such a pauper I got off the trolley by a small’ish looking home (above) and was pleased to find that it was very affordable indeed! The home was unfurnished (which I prefer) and had a plentiful prim allowance to decorate. Naturally the region is “period” but role play is very optional, I think its lovely to have the opportunity to dress up in period costume – so I have – but again it is optional. As you can see , at the moment the region is decorated with Autumnal plants and foliage, at the recent town meeting a new weather system was exhibited, and it looked fantastic – snow for Christmas perhaps! That is essentially the huge difference that I’ve found renting a home in Philomena, it’s a “community” and boy oh boy are those rare to find these days in Second Life! Most Saturdays there is social meeting, plus various other events such as a yardsale for us all to sell our spare gacha buys. Its going to be a busy Winter too ! Lots planned for the townfolk, I’m really looking forward to the decorate your home contest.

If you’re unsure how to furnish your residence, don’t fret. There is a large shopping area in town with everything you could possibly need for your home. Plus period clothing – of which I have bought rather a lot of!

It’s so relaxing just walking around the town, window shopping and hopping on and off the trolley bus. Apparently Philomena also has a railway station, which I am yet to visit. There is a new system in place so that you can travel between Historic & period regions. Each region has its own “visa” that you wear to use the facilities – it sounds marvellous and I will be having a go later this week time permitting.

Couldn’t resist showing off one of my bargain buys, I found this on the market place by Umikoh – just $50L for the set plus seven basic colours to play with. All mesh and really nicely made, I’ve found it doesn’t have to cost a great deal to get “into character” and its so much fun looking for clothing of that era.

This is The Mayor of Philomena, Mr Blake Panache, and this photo was taken at last night Town meeting – it drew quite a crowd! Im not sure why the Mayor has spider webs on his hands – maybe he has a day job of uhm – Spider Man?! Oh the intrigue . At the moment the rentals are not centralised in any way, so its simply a matter of walking or bus’ing around till you spot something you like – just like I did. Have fun and if you move in, please do come and say hello.
