Thats pretty annoying ! (Heads up)

As you know I try to showcase a rental home or estate that I’ve found to be a cool place to live. So yesterday I was out and about looking for something to share with you. I visited many many rental homes until I eventually found a sweet little cottage at Dandelion Dreamland rental homes. It was a good position with some great views and unfurnished for $200L per week and 100 prims – not bad ! As I landed I had been bombarded with the usual group joining notices etc but until I’ve found something worth a look I dont tend to pay those much attention- whats the point unless I’m going to rent right? WRONG – my mistake I really should have read and re read the many and lengthy notes on the card – this isn’t the usual note-card you get to tell you all about the rules – , Quite a longgggg way down the note states –

“Dandelion Daydreams Factory has a one off group join fee of 200 lindens, this fee has been put in place as open rez attracts way to many trolls and griefers which ruin the experience for everyone.
Joining this group allows for temporarily rezzing objects, ideal for photographers & bloggers and also those wanting to rez small items to use while visiting.
Most importantly, the cost to join 200 L$ goes towards monthly tier & keeping Dandelion alive, thus we appreciate all that join.
Not last to mention you can participate in the entertaining activities issued during the year and receive group gifts.”

What?! Thats right – to set to home, to rez your objects – infact to get any use out of the home – you HAVE to pay and additional $200L to join the group !!!! In all my years as a landlord, as a renter , in alll the years in Second Life – I have never ever ever ever been asked to PAY to join the group of a rental company! I dont want free gifts, I just want to rez my furniture and set to home. Just set up a group for the home renters and offer group join upon the rent box being paid – SIMPLE!

I wont be able to show you a home today – long story short , I am $200L down, no rental home and I’m in a group I’ve got no use for ! The landlord did refund my rent at least – as she stated it was my fault for not reading the LONG note-card fully before renting – actually I did but, I never in my wildest dreams figured that the PAY for group was for people renting homes – jeeeez.

If you dont mind the group fee on top of you rent – heres the landmark for the homes.

Renting a home in Second Life – Family time

Brackley Meadows NEW

I was perusing flickr the other day when I saw the most sweet photos of some homes. I contacted the owner and found out that they are part of a new family role play sim “Brackley Meadows”.

I shot over to take a look around and fell in love with this little house above. For just 250L it was mine for a week ! I got 100 prims as part of the deal, which is plenty in this day and age to furnish with. As you can see its a three storey home, the rooms are on the small side but it’s ever so cosy, if you look really carefully you might see I have already installed my kitchen.

Brackley Meadows

The sim is set out around a grassy park area, which includes a playground for children. My home faces out onto the park which is really nice, I’ve had a couple of walks and met with some interesting people to chat with. I’ve also cycled around and not noticed much in the way of lag at all yay!

When you land, you will find yourself in the Tourist & rental centre. This has a little bookcase where you can grab notecards about available rentals, a who’s/who for estate help, and also job opps (non paid but sounds FUN!) There are plenty of things to occupy your time, a reading room, day car centre, health facilities and a smattering of little shops.

Brackley Meadows 4

Not only small terraced homes but big sprawling family ones. The rental prices are really affordable but what struck me the most is the feeling of warmth. You’re greeted on the street, other residents and visitors are more than keen to chat and role play (if you wish). I’ve got a feeling that this will turn into great community.

Renting a home in Second Life (Part 6)

Glamdiosa Appartments - exterior

I happened upon this rental company yesterday and despite not being incredibly keen on apartment living, I decided to give it a go. There are two sims linked together, one for the rentals a collection of VERY ritzy huge homes and one apartment block, the other sim houses the owners rather nice fashion store. I’m a bit broke so I decided to go and view the apartments, boy I was in for a surprise! I walked to the lobby area and pressed the button for a lift, which promptly arrived, sat in it and chose the floor I wanted to go too. The penthouse was already taken (and a bit more expensive to rent) So I hopped in and out of the lift until I found an apartment I fancied. They are all pretty much decorated identically, just differing colours of lounge suite from what I saw. Ohmai gosh! They are suuuper luxurious – fully furnished, great poses and animations , it really felt posh.

Nice touches inside the spacious rooms, a lovely piano to play, coffee table with rezzable treats, and a balcony complete with breakfast table. You do also get a prim allowance but seriously, I couldn’t think of a single thing that I needed to rez – everything has been thought of for you. Perhaps a photo or two though.

Glamdiosa Appartments - bathroom

The bathroom is just gorgeous, shower for singles or couples, adult & PG animations, working toilet, sinks etc, very lush. It’s a bit like living in a very upscale hotel. The views are actually pretty good, every now and then for some reason fireworks start outside – lovely to watch and they don’t seem to impact on the sims performance at all.

Glamdiosa Appartments - bedroom

The bed room is vast, impressive bed with a large menu, roaring fire and working lamps. All the windows are touch tinted, which is pretty handy. All this for 450L per week – what’s the downside? Nothing if you like to live close to other people. I’m not sure how your private bedroom antics would pan out with someone below or above you – that’s a drawback for me. However, my neighbour very politely introduced herself, which was lovely and surprising – I rarely talk to anyone in SL these days, and it was just so nice to chat and laugh – this sort of living would be a brilliant way to find new friends. That kinda sold it to me really – 7 years in Second Life and I just don’t meet many new people these days  (Hi Purbella!) All in all – I think Id enjoy it here, the area is pretty, the owners attentive and ever so speedy to get me all set up with a group invite and offers to help if required. (The security system is awesome and simple to use btw) Go and take a peek, these are so so SO lovely !

Side note: Id like to mention that I pay my rent like any body else, I do not advertise the fact that I will be blogging the rental home at ALL – so any service I get is just like anyone else will receive.

Renting a Home in Secondlife (Part 5)

Aabye 37L per week rental home 1

I was really beginning to give up hope of finding a home to review. I’ve been dumped in forests, under buildings and left in the middle of a sim with nothing to tell me where to go see a home. *le sigh*. On my 50th teleport I finally found something ! This is Aabye rentals, and amazingly this sky home is just 37 L per week (paid monthly) Its got a lot going for it to be honest, and I’m not a big fan of these “boxy” style places, but even I warmed to it. Its spacious and almost everrrrrything in it is texture change. Youre not lumbered with what you’re given, love that. I fiddled about a bit, changed the wall colour and pattern, the lounge set is all colour & pattern change too, even the bed has a lot of choice of linen shades! The kitchen is a little out of proportion – unless you’re Amazonian woman – but its great fun, you can alter the wood of it and the counter tops, plus its got animations for cooking, baking, washing up, the fridge even hands out food & drinks. If you touch the window you get a choice of scenes to look out upon – nice touch. The rules are simple – you get a zero prim allowance, so you cant rez anything out permanently, but you can place shopping to open and then remove it. My group invite arrived within seconds, which was lovely. It would make a great base or romantic hideaway – the bed has a REALLY FULL menu *wink*, there’s also a dance system. Brilliant value all round.

Slink Physique & 37L per week rental home

Had to get a vanity shot in, the new corset that Player bought me from Blacklace awwww and also my newwww mesh Slink Physique body ! I’ve been playing around with this allll morning and I LOVE it ! Such a great price too, at 1250L it’s so affordable. Go grab a demo and try it out, worth a look. My hair is from Damsel Fly, a store Id not been to for such a long time – they sorta seemed to get stuck in a groove of what Id call more middle-aged female styles? Anyway, they’ve moved on and got into mesh, I popped over on the day of the 100L sale and snapped up a few do’s, very very pretty and modern yay!
