Feed A Smile!

Tomorrow you have the chance to really make a difference – and feed those smiles!  MichaelJ Rossini and Valeri Carissa run an event per month, the charities they support through these events are Feed a smile, Relay for Life and Making Strides. An event will be run on the 17th Feb (that’s tomorrow?) to raise money for Feed A Smile. Last month I spoke to Michael about their fund-raising, I admit I am always a little hesitant to get involved due to occurrences with other charities that didn’t sit well with me.

However, when I asked Michael about receipts and how the cash got to the charity , he gave me the above photo. Look carefully at the writing on the black board – got it? – doesn’t get much clearer than that huh?!

So how does the cash get raised? Simple really – you rock up to the event and have a GREAT time – seriously its that easy. Donation boxes are all around (these go direct to the nominated charity btw) The party is truly global, in the sense that something is happening throughout the time zones – you wont miss out I promise. Web site is listed below, please check it out for more info.

“As well as providing private and public events we also pride ourselves on the charity fundraising events we organize.

We aim to have a charity event every month, and the charities we support are Feed a Smile, Relay for Life and Making Strides

To date, we have raised over 190k for these charities

Our success is largely down to the quality of our entertainers – we use only the very best. Our venue is totally redesigned for each event by a sl award nominated designer

Everyone involved in our events donates their time free of charge, and every penny we raise goes directly to the charity concerned.”

Optimism I Haz It (Serious Cheapie).

I’m waiting for the RL sun to break through the grey clouds and I can get outside and do some Spring cleaning in my greenhouse and until that happens I started some SL hunting and to my pleasant surprise the first find is excellent, trust me that rarely happens.

OMG that rattan sofa is so freakin old style it’s probably high style now.  Check out this close up.

Classic kitsch now and such good quality as well.  I’m definitely keeping this even if I just use it as a prop.  You do also get the 2 pictures, vases and the cushion I’m sat on and it’s not that there is anything wrong with them at all, again shop quality and low primmed but I’m resolving to keep my packed invent down to a reasonable number I just can’t bring myself to bin the excellent “love chair” as it’s called in the pack.  Comes with some good poses for him and her including the guitar playing which you can see is also included in the cushion.  The cushion gave me a laugh as it’s actually got a proposal pose in it and a refusal pose, a really nice touch.

I’ve not bought this either, it’s in the shop and it looks suspiciously innocent but it also has a cleaning, floor sweeping, wall leaning etc poses in it but also a NAUGHTY Menu! since I’m a SL singleton I wouldn’t really get any use out of it but if you like to keep your naughty menu driven items secret this might be something you’re interested in.

I’m going to have a good mooch around when I get back inworld to grab the LM because this shop has a massive amount of items outside and in fact although I will try to give you the LM close to the prize you will probably find it’s outside you land.  If that happens then you simply walk inside the main shop and a clue is given for the hunt items…easy to find as well…but don’t be confused by the writing above the little purple box because it says “last donation and also Last Donor, just pay it the 3Lds and the giftie is sent to you.  BEST of all the 3Lds all goes towards the American Cancer Society! I would have paid much more for this prize and this cause but at least the token price of 3Lds means that even those on limited incomes can grab a goodie and donate to a great cause.

PS I’m putting the link for the site with the LM’s and pictures but you’re going to see a few more of them here as well.

The Home & Garden Expo 2011

One of the biggest events of the year has kicked off, the  fourth Homes & Garden Expo, and I was giddy was excitement after receiving my press pass to get a sneaky preview before its crazzzzy busy (thank you Cleom Bailey!) There are ten sims of goodies to peruse, yes TEN! It runs until the 22nd of this month so plenty of time to work your way around and see it all. The expo will cover all areas of home and land decor in SL. It gathers together many of SL’s greatest architects, furniture makers, gardeners and landscapers, some well-known and some not so well-known, in a grand display to Second Life shoppers and visitors.

Each Exhibitor will be selling two items which make their debut at the Expo and those sales will go to benefit Relay For Life, along with all proceeds from this year’s, always popular Scavenger Hunt, Auction and Raffle.

As you can see I found a couple of quiet corners to sit and relax, there are some stunning displays dotted around to enjoy and appreciate.

Lisp had some gorgeous items out, this umbrella set caught my eye, stacked with poses and so unique.

Dont forget to keep an eye out for some beautiful gifts as you walk about, Lisp had this oh-so-pretty day bed that came with two styles of lamps, and a new designer to me “Julia” had a super side table out complete with wine giver as a pressie (Julia also had a house out as a gift but I havent had time to rez it yet booo). Check out the superb details on Julia’s creations, certainly a store I shall investigate later. (thanks Lisp & Julia!)

If you’re an outdoorsy type, there’s also things to interest you..AZ Emporium had a simply fab selection of camping equip, the bed for this tent was amazing, you could close the mozzy nets, unmake & make the bed, plus nortiness in the poses *blush*.

As things hotted up and the official open time went by I flew off to the higher numbered sims before it got crowded and I met up with Sandi Glas of Glas Houses, my first real-life designer in the pixel flesh so to speak ! Sandi was most gracious and rezzed up another lawn chair for me to sit on while we chatted. Sandi has been designing Homes for 2 years and although she wasnt trumpeting the fact shed won awards I spotted it while I was profile snooping her (busted big time huh) Turns out shed won two  at build-off competitions hosted by what was once called the Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum, and is now Virtual Museums, Inc.

I had a wander about as Sandi mentioned she had a “beachy” type villa on display and I’m  a sucker for those, you HAVE to go see it, its one of her relay for life items and is totally different from anything Id considered for a beach theme before (think sharp white walls, dark crisp wood, angles & curves). The homes are solidly built, and very “warm” , you know the type of place you walk into and its empty, and immediately in your head you’re arranging your own furniture in it? Main store if you miss her pitch is here: Glas Houses . Lovely to meet you Sandi and thanks!

Andddd finally I found Cleo Designs ! Cleom Bailey is on Sim 4, which is chock-a-block with goodness . I just had to show you this lounger, its pretty fabulous…loadsss of poses and the back of the relciner even changes position as you sit up and down…I LOVE that!

Inside the pretty white house (which is also for sale) I found this piano set, I can’t express how pretty it is, its Cleom’s Relay for Life item, priced very reasonably at 200L you get all that you see in the photo. I was particularly impressed with the music it plays..go try it out ! (and its verrrrrry low prim yay!)

The Hall stand also caught my attention, a real steal at 100L, perfectly executed with great details and a pretty pose,as usual with Cleom’s designs you see it and wanttttt it ! (isn’t the little bag hanging up just toooooo cute??!!) Dont forget to mooch outside..there is a glorious arbor complete with couches, floaty curtains and tables that will make you swoooon. If you miss Cleo Designs at the fair here’s the main store: Cleo Designs (but you wont see the exclusive RFL items there!)

Hope you enjoy the event as much as I am/have, I suggest you do a couple of sims a day, I got a bit OVER excited doing so many in one go. There is so much to see and do, heaps to buy and snaffle up..and if you’re wanting to learn some new skills, Builders Brewery are also holding lessons & classes in all sorts of creating hurrrah! There are also live music sessions, parrrtay! In each sim there are teleporter boards & maps, you really wont get lost, I just flew around all ten sims and landed in the middle where the info boards were, brilliantly organised and easy to navigate, bigggg thanks to the organisers *squidge*

A little background for you also :

Relay For Life® is the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) is an annual activity that takes place in Second Life® in July each year. Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July. In July teams build campsites and walk a track, just like in a real world Relay. The main RFL of SL track event this year will take place on July 16-17. We will walk a virtual track for 24 hours, just like in a real world Relay For Life.

In 2010 Relay For Life of Second Life attracted more than 120 teams with participants from over 30 countries, held over 300 team fundraising events between March and July, and raised over US$222,000 (that’s REAL US dollars) for cancer research and education. The funds raised go to research, advocacy, patient services and programs, with 12-15% going to international projects. Just as in the real world, RFL of SL is an international event.

JANE - lucidity.relay4life 2011

The second item from Jane is called Lucidity…frothy little number in delicate cream & washed out blue..layered over your body..of course its a hard working piece….

JANE - lucidity.relay4life 2011 (Cami-top)

..and can also be worn as a dainty camisole type top alone…voila! Perfect for adding a dressy appeal to jeans, skirts.

More info:

Shopping “GLANCE Front Row” exclusives is easy: use the SLURLs to teleport to the participating designers’ mainstores.  From there you will see the official RFL vendors offering the exclusive event merchandise. By purchasing an item through RFL vendors, the money will go within 30 seconds to the official avatar of Relay For Life.

To keep the event enticing until the last day, just like in the final minutes of a fashion show, there are ten (10) ”secret” locations with participants that will only be revealed as the event draws down to the concluding ten days. The 20 remaining exclusive creations will be introduced along with a nice surprise!

How cool is that! You shop, you raise cash for The American cancer society at the same time…

Fashion for Life

Today marks the beginning of the Fashion for Life event in Second Life. If you haven’t heard of this event, Fashion for Life is the fashion arm of Relay for Life, formerly known as the RFL Clothing Fair. It is Second Life’s longest running fashion fair. It runs across 9 sims from March 12-22 and 100% of the funds raised go to the American Cancer Society. Cancer, unfortunately, is something that affects too many of us and any cause that so generously donates to an important organisation such as this is a worthy one.

Here I am proud to be able to show SF Designs creations for the Fashion for Life event. swaffette Firefly has made two outfits. The first, in the picture above, is the Robert Edition of her Westminster Suit and Coat. This edition of the Westminster was dedicated to Robert, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2010. The Westminster suit is a beauty, the deep purple colour is great-looking (and is also the pancreatic cancer awareness colour). The overcoat on this suit is most definitely my favourite part of this outfit, the buttons on the cuffs look brilliant and the flexi coat bottom comes in two different sizes for easier fitting. You can also wear this suit without the overcoat and you get three different ‘backflaps’ for the suit jacket to give it a more realistic look. There are also two different versions of the business shirt and tie, which is colour changeable (I absolutely love the different colour options on these ties).

The second of SF Designs Fashion for Life outfits is called the Andy Casual Set and was made for another of swafette’s friends who is fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It features the shirt and jeans you can see above, also a pair of shoes shown below. The shirt, to me, looks a little like a short-sleeved football jersey in its design and also the shiny, smooth looking texture (I suppose the number 16 on the back helped me think that way too). The jeans are just the way I like them, rough-looking texture and nice creases plus they also come with some fantastic cuffs that you get two versions of, one with resizer scripts and one without. The shoes are very sporty looking trainers, blue with white stripes and you get the two different versions of these also should you need to change the size.

These two outfits are priced at L$400 each and, considering the quality of the clothes and the worthy cause you’ll be supporting, they are well worth getting. Head on down and take a look around at the amazing line up of stores taking part in this wonderful event and help yourself to some of their fantastic designs and show your support.
