Grand Isolation – renting a home in Second Life

CLM rental home - $99L per week rent furnished or unfurnished

Time for another look at the rental market, I always love to do these posts – hope you enjoy them and find them useful. I came across CLM rentals and took a peek at what they had to offer. Quite a range of rental homes and land, starting from a little as $50L per week. Most of the “budget” range seemed to be furnished, not bad but Id prefer to use my own stuff really. You can’t ask for furniture removals on the budget homes, but you can on the others (over $100L per week range). I liked the look of this Lighthouse, something a little different no? It cost me $99L for a week, furnished and with 50 prims to use. As usual with me, I asked for everything to be removed so I could furnish myself. After everything was taken I had the grand total of 65 prims yay! That’s more than enough to create a cozy and stylish place. There are four floors to this dwelling, I used the ground as a lounge/ kitchen, 2nd floor as a dining room, 3rd floor bedroom and left the 4th floor empty as it was nice to have a walk around area outside. I have ONE prim left for emergencies! Group auto return is set to on in the properties, so make sure you’re wearing your group tag BEFORE placing stuff out – or it gets delivered back to you pretty pronto. (The group invite arrives as soon as you’ve paid the rent)

CLM rental home - 99L per week

I used almost exclusively furniture from Bazar, low prim and brilliantly made. The fire in my bedroom is by what next – gotta have a snuggly fire near my bed. Once I was finished decorating (I LOVE decorating) I decided to survey the new area. One of the reasons I chose the lighthouse, is that I can avoid looking at the land behind me, it isn’t a pretty view , but…its not hard to ignore it. Once I’m inside my lighthouse I tend to look out of the windows at the sea – that suits me just fine. I did take a look at a few other homes being offered and found some dead cute ocean front sort of tiki houses. Well appointed and nicely set out and ever so inexpensive ! Definitely do check the other homes, I’m pretty sure you will find something to your taste.

Renting a home in SecondLife – Ritzy !

London Sloane Street rental home

I’ve been after one of these rental homes in Sloane Street, Knightsbridge London for simply ages and finally I found one I liked. It’s all about location right? Zan and I have both checked these homes out before and totally fell in love with them, might be because we are English, but also because they are SUCH good value for money. This home was 399L per week, partially furnished , with 100 prims.

London Sloan Street house rental 399L per week

Most of the furnishings are from one of my favourite stores Bazar, I popped over to the store and picked up a few additional pieces at a very low cost (around 15-40L per item!) All very low prim and simply brilliant as decor around the place. So what do you get for your 399L? Surprisingly a huge three storey house with plenty of room. I’m surprised people don’t use them as house shares really, the layout and space is perfect for it. My little piece of England also had a small grassy back garden with a water view (which is what Id been holding out for) others have a sweet lawn all fenced off. Ground floor comprises of an airy entrance hall, lounge, partitioned dining area leading to a nifty little kitchen and doors to the garden.

As you can see I had my laundry hanging out to dry when I took the photos ! This table is from Bazar and I really need to buy it, it rezzes meals and snacks for up to four people, lovely poses and super low prim.

London Sloane Street Lounge area

Here is the living area all very well-appointed, I added the curtains, not that you need them as anyone looking from outside can’t see inside, they just looked pretttty. I’ve got my bedroom  on the next floor and the third floor I left empty, it’s exactly the same size as my one though. When you rent, you should receive a group invite straight away, if you don’t on the notecard you get after paying there is a website address to lodge any messages, my experience is this is responded to very quickly. The home comes complete with a security orb which is very simple to operate, you can also add partners or friends to the rent box which gives them the ability to open the doors and receive their own group invite. I never did find a central office for the rental homes, I just flew around looking for them. Pretty easy to determine which are for rent, plus you get to look at the location in more detail. Despite being quite a busy place, I experienced no lag yay!

Disclaimer: I pay the rent on the homes I blog about. The landlord is not aware I will be blogging about my stay. I have no connection to any rental companies that I write about past or present.

Boathouse blues (Renting a home in Second Life part 3)

Boat House Rental Skadi

Ahh yes, I am still on my bleu phase ! I even managed to find a house that’s blue – heaven ! Big thanks to a SLU forum member who poked me towards this rental company – I found SO many homes I liked it was hard to decide upon which one to rent and play around with. The rental company is called  “ffrendz” and have a few sites – the Sim I rented on is called Skadi. At the moment its all hands on deck as they are totally revamping their rentals – new homes – new layout. When I found a home I liked, it wasn’t quite ready – so I dropped a notecard on the lovely owner Basilicum Beerbaum and asked if it could be reserved for me, so I could pay the rent when it was ready. No problem ! The very next day, I was ready to roll. Received a note from the landlord with all the information I could need and dashed over to claim my retreat.

Boat House Rental Skadi - front views

The rent is incredibly affordable, I was surprised. I was going to rent one of the little funky beach cabins but decided to go large and splash out on a larger home on the oceans edge. This larger spacious home cost me the grand total of $386L per week – what a steal ! I also get 250 prims, so plenty to decorate the home, rez up a boat as it has access to the sea to sail. As you can see outside you have a long deck area, perfect for entertaining, fishing from and lounging about. (I have a little confession *gasp*, I usually rent for a week, enough time to get a feel for the area and take some snaps – but yesterday I put another week on the box as I LOVE this place that much.) Player came over last night – got his seal of approval too. I haven’t been bothered by a soul but I see people on the sim regularly. I’ve sailed for hours, fiddled about inside and just sat enjoying the view. The landlord is friendly but not in your face – I was given all the information I needed upon renting, a warm welcome also. The rent box contains a prim counter – so you can easily keep a tally of how much you’ve used.

Boat House Rental Skadi - side window views

The home I chose to rent is fabulous. Underneath you have your very own boat house, a place to store your yacht or speed boat. I have really enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching people sail by. Upstairs are the living quarters, this is a view from one of the side windows. as you can see, you’re not hemmed in by other houses and it gives the feeling of wide-open-spaces. I noticed that none of the homes I looked at had a locking system for the doors, so I asked about it. You can, if you want, use a security system of your own. I bought mine from Phil Deakins at Prim Misers. I think they are around 150L a pop, easy to use, simple to set up . (I’ve used these for six years, brilliant little thing) To be honest though, I’ve not even bothered closing my doors – its a nice neighbourhood and you get the feeling that there’s no need to lock up and safeguard.

Boat House Rental Skadi - interior main living spacve - Boathouse sofa, rug & coffee table

The main living area is vast, plenty of room for a sofa, desk or even split it into a bedroom studio kinda deal. French windows fold back to reveal a large balcony area that’s ideal for dining or sipping your morning coffee from. There is also a smaller room off the lounge, great for a nursery or office space, perhaps a small kitchen.

In one corner I placed my brand spanking new desk set from StandyBy Inc, currently available at collabor88. It really fitted in with my nautical home !

I also splurged a little at Sways and bought this darling little photo frame in the shape of a birdcage, you can add your own happy-snaps !

Boat House Sofa - coffee table & rug

My superb sofa is from BoatHouse, I hadn’t been to this shop for simply agesss and I thought they might have something sweet for my new home. I was right ! Snapped up this couch and fishy shaped coffee table plus a rag rug for the floor. The animations in the couch are sooo lovely ! Singles & couples and naughty ones too o.O ! More from the Boathouse later I promise – I bought a LOTS .

FYI. Ffrendz rental community is undergoing a revamp currently, they will have rental offices set up at each location eventually apparently, which will make it easier to navigate around all the areas. There is also a web site which is under construction for the time being and may not be totally up to date, this is the web address : www.ffrendz.eu    .  Contacts

A place of your own (No.2)

60L rental home - beach cabin scene

I’ve decided to keep with this feature, and will try to blog a place every couple of weeks. If any of you find a unique, interesting rental home that you think might be worth blogging about please let me know! Anywayyy After 4 hours of trawling around SL, I eventually ended up at “60L rentals”. Thats exactly what it is, a home for 60L per week, it’s what it says on the tin kinda deal! However, the clever thing is you don’t have to choose one home – oh no – you actually get a choice of seventeen ! I stumped up 60L and got my slice of home-sweet-home, then played around with it for an hour. Above is the beach scene I really liked, cabin with adult bed, rockers, locking doors, and an adult daybed. Soft sounds of ocean waves (which I can’t find a way to turn off!), and swirling water effects all around.

60L rental home - Set up panel

Got tired of that after a while so took a look at the other options from the board above. This board is important if you rent here. Its your security, rent box and multi-scene changer thinger. You are located high up in the sky in your own dome, then you select from the pop up menu what home you’d like to rez – note- when you come back to your home from a period away, just the dome is there, it’s not permanent – no worries though, just select it again from the board. The padlock is your security, I stupidly didn’t bother with the helpful notecard given to me upon renting (duh) and came home to find a couple exploring my home , my own fault. Read the notecard, set it up so only I can enter, everyone else is auto ejected – nice !

60L rental home - mesh apartment

Obviously as there is a  Barnesworth Anubis build in the options I chose that next (fangirl!) Each home has a good bed with adult and PG animations, plus in some cases menu driven couches, daybed and sun loungers. Its worth noting that you do get a small prim allowance of ten prims. Enough for shopping bags and perhaps the odd personal item you might want to keep out from time to time.

60L rental home - mesh apartment scene

Theres such a big choice of home styles, from Gorean camp, xxx urban role play, apartments, forests. At this price point it would also make an ideal place to take blog photos (as Zan uses up SO many prims at home I can never rez my own photo scene bubble!) This is a budget operation but with quality options, if you’re a high maintenance type of renter who needs lots of assistance it might not work for you so well, BUT if you READ THE HELP NOTE CARDS – you would be fine !

60L rental home - teleport panel in office

Upon arrival at the office you’ll find this type of board, no need to choose they are all the same btw. Utilise the teleport button, kindly highlighted in BRIGHT yellow and go up to the dome, pay the rent box et voilà, you’re ready to roll. The group invitation arrives straight away, make sure you grab it and accept or you wont be able to set your home position and rez items. I’ve been in this rental for a couple of days now and apart from neglecting to set up my security properly and having uninvited guests, its been quiet and peaceful. My nearest neighbours seem to be about 600m away, and the sim isn’t remotely laggy. The intan dance system is a nice touch for couples and friends and I have actually enjoyed my “little getaway” place.
