You’ve got some land- what now?

Over the last few months Zan and I have moved home – primarily to downsize to a more affordable situation. We went from a homestead to half a homestead – it seemed at the time such a mammoth move, starting afresh, choosing new homes and landscaping what land we had.

Before we did anything with the land we both decided to hunt down a new home. Take your time over this, as everything else you do afterwards really depends on what style of home you choose. Check the market place under “Buildings and other structures” then select “residential structures”. Please do go and visit the inworld stores – I cant suggest this enough ! Pretty photos on the market place give you an IDEA of what a build is like, but seeing it in world is totally different. Think about the land impact, and what that leaves you to decorate the interior of the home and landscape the surrounding area.

If you are renting a chunk of land, you can edit the terrain but you may not be able to alter the terrain textures – we’ve found that “land forms” as shown above can be really useful. Zan has these from HMPD (not listed in their MP but in the inworld store) Also Alex Bader of studio-skye does some amazing mesh terrain, rocks, cliffs etc to totally transform your land and add character that a blank chunk of land just does not have. I’m pretty old school and I like to play with editing the land, shaping it, lifting it etc. The most useful tool I have for this is the “Land leveller”, basically its a wooden rectangle that you move around and the land follows – if you’d like a copy just drop me a note!

Once you have decided where to place your home you can then landscape around it. Zan and I have been in SL for a lifetime so over the years we have accumulated a LOT of stuff. We have our favourite designers for plants & trees, rocks, furniture etc and I will list a few below if you’d like to check them out. The key thing is not to rush and buy a ton of items, try and let it evolve and change – you might be surprised with what you come up with ! When I started in SL everything was tiki and beach based!

Moonlit Bay NEW

I’ve just scrapped everything on my side ! Both of us love love love to change homes and I was lured by the Dome home by Rebourne, its been out for a while but I had a hankering for it when it was released. It can be sky or land based, luckily for me Zan agreed to landscape around my new home – looks amazing ! Dont be nervous about editing the shape of your land, add a beach, add hills and fields, cut the plain shape up to create meadows and gardens. We have used a lot more open water between our homes, takes up no prims. Add a few waves et voila !

A short list of places we both love to spend lindens at:

HPMD – land forms & trees

Studio-skye – all types of landscaping

Dench Designs – furniture

3D – Trees and plants

Bazar – furniture

Hisa – homes

Salome Designs – ancient style homes

Trompe L’oeil – Homes

Free and look at me.

These are the new gifts from Hisa.

I squealed ever so slightly in RL as before the latest lockdown I’d managed to pick up an oversized teapot with the intentions of using it in a similar way.

You get 2 different styles, a teapot and a cast iron pan and with or without snow.

Hisa is, of course, a shop close to my SL heart now as I absolutely love my Hisa house I always pop into the shop as you can also TP from the LM, it’s the poster on the shop window, and see any new builds in progress.

This is an UPDATE to a post from yesterday about the Little Foxes shop. I just wanted to show you what I got for my, almost, free shop credit.

A deceptively simple sweater but the colour is excellent and the roll neck is done so well. The seams are crisp, honestly no matter how many plain sweaters you have you still need this one and obviously there are many other colour options to chose from.

Sadly my preferred mesh fit isn’t used in this shop which is a shame as there were 2 other tops I’d have loved esp since a lot of them have that “nip” look to them which I actually like as just like wrinkles and folds a hint of nip adds to the realism.

PS. The shop credit is still out but again I’d RUSH now as I can’t imagine it being out for much longer.

Patience pays! (Super Bargains & Mention of Freebies).

Woo Hoo, I’m so glad I didn’t rush back to Hisa to buy the snowpack I’d mention in a recent post as Hisa is now offering a 50% discount on all of it’s builds including the very same snowpack I was going to pay full price for and now I’ve saved myself some money!

This is what my house will look like once I start to snowified(sic) my side of the sim so I’ve just used the example that is out on the snow platform at the Hisa shop for us to see how it would look and you can also buy both the house and snow addon there and then if you want

You DO pay full price and the discount is sent right back to you.

Now for for what I didn’t buy.

These 2 homes are NOT being sold with a 50% discount, even better as they’re being sold for just 100Lds!

Yup I kid you not just 100Lds for either property.

The icing on the cake is that you can also buy the snow addon packs for these bargain-priced homes! You can see these 2 homes with the snow on the winter platform as well and I’ve checked they are priced at 100Lds and the snow pack will be 50% odd.

As brilliant as these builds are and for just such a low price I’m going to have to resist! Usual moan, I am a house/home/build hoarder and I just can’t afford to hoard more homes even ones as tempting as these ones are.

PS. There are Group Gifts which you will have seen before in many blogs inc ours.

Don’t read this post as it may end up costing you!

You have been warned lol.

I swear, and Faith can back me up, that apart from a dusting of snow I wasn’t going to winterise my home and now I’ve seen this addon snow pack from Hisa I’m being sorely tempted to go full snow!

This is my home or rather what it will look like if I cave in to temptation and buy this addon snow pack.

The house itself is 875Lds and the snow addon is 475Ld. WORTH IT! I may have a countless amount of homes/builds/caravans etc in my invent I’ve picked up along the way but for many years now I have only lived in 3 of them and this “The Forest Retreat” has been my home since we moved to our new sim.

I actually used our move as an excuse to buy this new home as I loved it the moment I saw it. You get amazing attention to detailling and excellent texturing for only 34 prims!

There are other snow addon packs on the platform I’m stood on so if you own another Hisa house check it out if you too want to go all wintery.

We all have the things we can’t help caving into temptation, in my case it’s homes and landscaping/decor but I think for most SLers its clothes and hair so I’m going to tempt you to spend some more money with this NEW Mina hat/hair.

I don’t take many back of the head shots as I’m rubbish at it but in this case I really just wanted to show off how how good it looks. We all remember the days when “Beanies” looked like teapot covers or helmets so to see how much they have come on since then is just so good.

Of course this isn’t the only “Beanie” hat Mina has so as always check out her mainshop to try all the demos but since this is the newest one it means you get that massive hud of hair colours. The “Style Hud” for the hat is a seperate purchase. When I first put this hair on the hat was a lovely soft grey, not the ugly “unrezzed” grey we all hate but almost a dove grey. If you want to splash a bit more cash then the style hud does offer you a big total of 15 colours/textures.

As alway try the demo out in the mainshop have a wander around to check out the other hat/beanie/hairs then when it’s gotten a bit quieter you can visit the Tannenbaum event which is where you buy this hat/hair from.

Plus I’ve added the link to the Serpahim blog as someone there has gone to a lot of effort and you can see everything for sale as this event.

Tatty old shed. (Dollarbie).

This is definitely NOT a “Tatty old shed” in fact it’s rather a decent build so much so I may just use it on my part of the sim instead of a greenhouse.

If you look at the bottom right of this picture you will see a shrub which is included and also those purple and orange flowers.

These flowers trailing around the door are such excellent quality I have everything crossed that I can repurpose them as YESSS Editable!  So you know that when I log back in I’m going to be tearing it apart prim by prim.

And even better since it’s also copyable it means I don’t have to sacrifice this really good build.

PS.  This gift is standing next to the Hisa shop and inside is another Group Gift of lanterns.

UPDATE: Wowzer, so I had a bit of a flyby to check out a building I spotted and I am most impressed with the few homes that are for sale on the sim.  Nice fresh designs, excellent texturing and OMG the prims are so unbelievably reasonable.  Check out the “Forest Retreat” near to the LM, all of that and a “bag of chips” for 34 prims!  I was so interested in how much this build costs I tried to TP to the Shiny Shabby event where it’s for sale but I couldn’t get in because I don’t think it’s open to us as of yet.

This is a BRAND new shop to SL but whoever is behind the label must be an SL old-timer as to hit the market with such great builds is someone who knows their stuff.  This is a shop I can see growing big in SL.
