elev8 – I treated myself

elev8~Nobu dining set

I have been slowly decorating my new home over the last few weeks. I decided to shop for a new dining table set and came across a new-to-me store (but not quite!) You’ve got some land- what now?

Over the last few months Zan and I have moved home – primarily to downsize to a more affordable situation. We went from a homestead to half a homestead – it seemed at the time such a mammoth move, starting afresh, choosing new homes and landscaping what land we had.

Before we did anything with the land we both decided to hunt down a new home. Take your time over this, as everything else you do afterwards really depends on what style of home you choose. Check the market place under “Buildings and other structures” then select “residential structures”. Please do go and visit the inworld stores – I cant suggest this enough ! Pretty photos on the market place give you an IDEA of what a build is like, but seeing it in world is totally different. Think about the land impact, and what that leaves you to decorate the interior of the home and landscape the surrounding area.

If you are renting a chunk of land, you can edit the terrain but you may not be able to alter the terrain textures – we’ve found that “land forms” as shown above can be really useful. Zan has these from HMPD (not listed in their MP but in the inworld store) Also Alex Bader of studio-skye does some amazing mesh terrain, rocks, cliffs etc to totally transform your land and add character that a blank chunk of land just does not have. I’m pretty old school and I like to play with editing the land, shaping it, lifting it etc. The most useful tool I have for this is the “Land leveller”, basically its a wooden rectangle that you move around and the land follows – if you’d like a copy just drop me a note!

Once you have decided where to place your home you can then landscape around it. Zan and I have been in SL for a lifetime so over the years we have accumulated a LOT of stuff. We have our favourite designers for plants & trees, rocks, furniture etc and I will list a few below if you’d like to check them out. The key thing is not to rush and buy a ton of items, try and let it evolve and change – you might be surprised with what you come up with ! When I started in SL everything was tiki and beach based!

Moonlit Bay NEW

I’ve just scrapped everything on my side ! Both of us love love love to change homes and I was lured by the Dome home by Rebourne, its been out for a while but I had a hankering for it when it was released. It can be sky or land based, luckily for me Zan agreed to landscape around my new home – looks amazing ! Dont be nervous about editing the shape of your land, add a beach, add hills and fields, cut the plain shape up to create meadows and gardens. We have used a lot more open water between our homes, takes up no prims. Add a few waves et voila !

A short list of places we both love to spend lindens at:

HPMD – land forms & trees

Studio-skye – all types of landscaping

Dench Designs – furniture

3D – Trees and plants

Bazar – furniture

Hisa – homes

Salome Designs – ancient style homes

Trompe L’oeil – Homes

52 days to go, the countdown has started (Freebies).

he 52 days is how many days are left until CHRISTMAS!  Yes, that’s only 7 weeks and 1 more wage packet! Have I panicked you?  Blimey when you break it down it’s scary how close it really is.

Anyhow since the Crimbo ads are already sneaking in in RL here is the FIRST one from me……please don’t shoot me I’m just the messenger.

xxxchristuse

What happened was, is that I am still working on setting up my new SL house and as I was placing out a rather nice item of decor I own I decided to pop over to the Bazar shop where I got it from to basically check for any new freebies and sadly no new freebies and in fact the one box set out for us contains all the old Crimbo pressies from the past couple of years but once I’d checked out the whole shop I grabbed the goodies and TPed home.

xxxchristuse2

I won’t add any more pictures but you actually get an awful lot more than what I’m showing you and although some of these I’m going to be bining there is some really good stuff and a mix of low and high prims which will suit everyone’s prim allowance.

PS When you go inside the main shop, Crimbo gifts to the left and a lounger dollarbie to the right.

Hello Sailor – (renting a home in Second Life)

Sailors Cove rental homes

I’ve been dying to use that as a blog post title ! Its been a couple of months since I last looked around at rental homes – and this time I have found a real gem . It all begun when I was trying to sort out my inventory, I came across some items made by Ken Rosenthal – wow blast from the past! I haven’t spoken to Ken for years, so like the true stalker I can be, I looked him up and noticed he had rental homes. Now, if you know Ken, you’d know he is one classy guy. Intrigued to see what he had built I zoomed over – et voila – ended up renting one of his gorgeous homes in “Sailors Cove”. As I suspected the place was beautiful, small and welcoming. The real beauty is that you have access to the open sea from your home, rez your craft and you’re off ! The home is a light and bright space, open plan living downstairs and furnished mainly with pieces from one of my favourite stores “Bazar”. One double bedroom upstairs and a gallery landing – perfect for placing an easel …or something.

Sailors Cove rental home $600L per week - furnished (or not) plus prims!

Soooo renting details:  $600L per week. The units are furnished and have an additional 150 prim limit(land impact) for you to add. You can request the unit to be unfurnished for a total of 270 prim limit (land impact). when you get your note-card with embedded group joiner just click and wear – et voila !

Sailors Cove - interior

I haven’t had the urge to rez any more furniture to be honest – it’s so tastefully done already why change?. However the generous prim allowance means you can fool around with your collection of boats, yachts etc outside on your deck. There are just eight of this sweet homes to rent and three are taken already – pop over and check it out. The landmark given will take you to the deck of my place – feel free to mooch ! Thanks for the warm welcome Ken ❤

Surf camper – my Autumn abode

Bazar - Surf camper NEW!!

I saw this surf camper by Bazar and just knew I would buy it – I own an awful lot of items from Bazar, so I knew the quality, animations and execution would be brill. The camper itself is just so charming and for such a small space plenty has been packed in to play with . I knowwwww it was prolly meant for a beach setting, but the style police haven’t been round to arrest me since I set it up amongst my goats and chickens by the lake! I totally adore it, its my kinda place, lots of nooks and crannies but not head spinningly small.

Bazar - surf camper NEW!

I actually read the info note *faints* and learnt how to turn on experiences so that the props attach to me automatically without having to say “yes” to each one! Basically there are a few zones in and outside of the camper with animations. The bed (adult or PG versions available), dining table that has various eating and sitting poses, the toilet with male and female animations for doing your “business” – the shower, and the nifty kitchenette which has not only cooking & washing up but also some snuggles for couples .

Bazar - Californian surf camper

I bought the adult pack (which comes with a copy of the PG version tucked inside yay) If you get this pack you also get all the décor – I have to say I am pretty addicted to Bazar decor, SO low prim and SO well detailed , so it was a definite bonus to get it included. You can also buy the décor bits n bobs separately if you wish. All comes packed in a rez faux to make it super easy to set up, at 48Li it wont eat a massive hole in your prim budget either. It’s all set up to try out at the latest round of 6º Republic, go take a peek.

Grand Isolation – renting a home in Second Life

CLM rental home - $99L per week rent furnished or unfurnished

Time for another look at the rental market, I always love to do these posts – hope you enjoy them and find them useful. I came across CLM rentals and took a peek at what they had to offer. Quite a range of rental homes and land, starting from a little as $50L per week. Most of the “budget” range seemed to be furnished, not bad but Id prefer to use my own stuff really. You can’t ask for furniture removals on the budget homes, but you can on the others (over $100L per week range). I liked the look of this Lighthouse, something a little different no? It cost me $99L for a week, furnished and with 50 prims to use. As usual with me, I asked for everything to be removed so I could furnish myself. After everything was taken I had the grand total of 65 prims yay! That’s more than enough to create a cozy and stylish place. There are four floors to this dwelling, I used the ground as a lounge/ kitchen, 2nd floor as a dining room, 3rd floor bedroom and left the 4th floor empty as it was nice to have a walk around area outside. I have ONE prim left for emergencies! Group auto return is set to on in the properties, so make sure you’re wearing your group tag BEFORE placing stuff out – or it gets delivered back to you pretty pronto. (The group invite arrives as soon as you’ve paid the rent)

CLM rental home - 99L per week

I used almost exclusively furniture from Bazar, low prim and brilliantly made. The fire in my bedroom is by what next – gotta have a snuggly fire near my bed. Once I was finished decorating (I LOVE decorating) I decided to survey the new area. One of the reasons I chose the lighthouse, is that I can avoid looking at the land behind me, it isn’t a pretty view , but…its not hard to ignore it. Once I’m inside my lighthouse I tend to look out of the windows at the sea – that suits me just fine. I did take a look at a few other homes being offered and found some dead cute ocean front sort of tiki houses. Well appointed and nicely set out and ever so inexpensive ! Definitely do check the other homes, I’m pretty sure you will find something to your taste.

CIRCA New!

I love the cheeseboard ! Yes yes yes I am a cheese addict too , who doesn’t like a cracker with lashings of butter (salted of course) and a big old chunk of cheese? Gone are the days of food items in Second Life being a huge primtastic affair, all of these are super low prim so you can really go to town and scatter them about.

CIRCA New @ The Thrift Shop

Each item also gives out on touch, an edible that animates you eating it.  This deluxe cupcake stand is so detailed. The cakes have little bows and decorations and the cup cake cases have tiny snowflakes adorning them. On the larger pieces you will also notice they have attached décor, such as above, the bauble and flake. This round of The Thrift Shop runs until the 30th November so get your skates on and grab up some goodies. Thanks Cherelle ❤
